Despite still being in positions of power and privilege, many belonging to the higher castes still oppose reservations and the practice of affirmative action. Are they terrified of being treated like they’ve always treated minorities and lower castes? Equality is oppression they believe The fear of losing rule Of being dealt like a minority They’re united in terror Of those they’ve subjugated They dominate but they’re still so scared Afraid that they’ll be replaced This day we respond to your violence Forever impure, forever unclean Forever tainted, forever obscene Forever on the outside, spitting in

No Healing 02:52
We live in a rape culture where victims are blamed and sexual abuse survivors are silenced. The taboo surrounding rape and sexual abuse means that, more often than not, perpetrators of sexual violence get away without punishment. Raped, strangled, mutilated Beaten down in a dozen ways Thresholds crossed, lines desecrated It goes on and on and on, and they’re still defended We hear them justify We watch them vindicate For every fearful finger pointed Thousands turn it down as fabricated The victims shamed for speaking up Blinkered views come creeping out No healing in this culture of silence No healing, no easing

Whenever South Asia’s oppressed minorities - often betrayed by their community leaders - have risen up against prejudiced, majoritarian governments, hundreds (even thousands) have been arrested and tortured to death. Those responsible for these custodial deaths have rarely been punished. No mercy, devoid of compassion No place to hide existing under unjust laws Prejudiced against, no masks for the state’s intolerance Justified protests in the face of blind disregard Betrayed by those on whom they had placed their faith They come with laws, enforced by guns They come with laws, their eyes filled with cold intent The state holds the needle that weaves the cloth of prejudice And so they spill out on the streets They who have always faced defeat Black flags raised they march down Towards the armed, the uniformed The path leads to their demise Into a tiny cell, entombed for life Held for days, cut off from the world Screams falling upon deaf ears Left ignored, aid refused Fevered, bloodied, death comes slow Mere silence, no answers
4.
Brahmanical patriarchy has suppressed women in South Asia for centuries. The differences between the ways sons and daughters are treated, the practices of female infanticide, dowry and menstrual exile, and unequal citizenship laws, all have their roots in Brahmanical patriarchy. Governed by religion Guided by the right to suppress Sanctioned in the constitution The traitors in their midst must be controlled Their bodies are the host To the sons they claim are a scourge To a land they judge to be besieged The burden, the ignored The sister scrubs, the prince sits and gloats Just a body, nothing more than a womb Bridled by the father Steered to stay behind For every prayer to a goddess There’s a daughter repressed Regard curbed to temples Some they can’t even access Man kept at the center Regardless of class and caste Thus the system perpetuates They’ll forever expound On mythical theories and perceived past glories They’ll always ignore The injury, the harsh reality And so millions suffer in silence Suffer in silence
